Kariobangi Paralegal Network (KAPARANET) is an independent, nonprofit registered Community based organization (CBO) that promotes access to justice, through human rights, legal education, legal aid /advice sessions, research and advocacy.

Founded in 2009, KAPARANET was registered in 2012 with the goal of engaging community members in sustained learning of legal processes, participation and understanding social justice that overcome vulnerabilities in line with the UN sustainable Development Goals number 16(2) and Kenya’s vision 2030. KAPARANET works in the governance, justice, law and orders sector practitioners and transition institutions.

KAPARANET is governed by the executive committee, which is headed by a chair, members drawn from various professionals The Secretariat is headed by the Executive Director and four staff comprising of lawyers, paralegals, social scientists, and accountant.

KAPARANET works in good partnerships with both State and Non-State actors.  Member of the Police Reforms Working- Kenya, a grouping of civil society Organizations, to advocate for democratic reforms in the security sector including National Police service and private security industry.

Tasks done by KAPARANET

• Model study for World Bank research on the role of paralegals in enhancing wheels of justice and unclog the formal justice system in Kenya in 2011.
• Imperative Position of paralegals in case management study and exchange visit by the Mozambique ministry of Justice and school of law February 2012.
• Training of Paralegals for partners for Caritas Nairobi St. Teresa Eastleigh Peace Building.
• Development, Testing and Application of the National Paralegal Draft Model policy 2010 thus leading to the enactment of Legal Aid Act.
• Human Rights training in Korogocho, Kariobangi, Huruma, Kayole, Dandora, Ruaraka, Mathare and Kasarani.
• Monitoring and appraisal of Institutions on compliance like National Police service.
• Social audit of the devolved funds in Kasarani and Embakasi North, Ruaraka,Mathare.
• Member of the Makadara Court Users committee.
