About

Founded by seven women of different professions, Women Action Towards Entrepreneurship Development (WATED) is a Non-Governmental Organization registered, on 5 September 2013 - under the Non-Government Organization Act/2002 - with Registration number 00NGO/00006546. WATED was launched on 24 September 2013 by Honourable Sophia Simba, Minister for Gender Children and Development.

Mandate

Building, enhancing, improving and strengthening women entrepreneurship and economic empowerment groups to act on and train women on issues of economic empowerment and leadership while raising awareness on legal, health and self-employment issues to the general public.

Mission

To contribute towards women economic development.

Objectives

• To facilitate women to participate in economic activities;
• To advocate for women economic empowerment as key human rights issue;
• To advocate for economic empowerment through Legal Advocacy, campaigns, research and trainings, and legal counseling;
• Empowering communities and women on economic issues through gender parity;
• To strengthen women by granting them access to information related to leadership, human rights, health rights and economic opportunities;
• Working with CSOs on UPR and advocating for Human Rights;
• Discussions with professionals on Sustainable Development PPP on Human Rights Business programs;
• Advocacy on health rights, employment and land rights projects.

Partnership

The work of our organisation is carried out in collaboration with other stakeholders at national and international level. Through partnership we have worked with UNDP on "shrinking space of civil society" in Tanzania and with the Office of High Commissioner on "human rights defenders training for the Horn of Africa".

We are members of:

• Human Rights Defenders in Tanzania;
• Haki na Usalama in Tanzania;
• Coalition for Corporate Accountability (ACCA);
• Coalition for Human Rights in Development.

We work closely with professional bodies such as:

• Women Doctors Association,
• Women in the Africa (WiLDAF),
• Women Lawyers Association,
• Coalition to end Torture;

We also work with Government institutions such as the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG).
